Self description

Female , 26

Hi I'm Sarah :), I am currently finishing my AS levels - English literature, Drama, Music and Psychology. What prompted me to join up with 'The Horses Mouth' was my interest and seemingly good ability to help people - either by simply being a "shoulder to cry on" or providing helpful advice. I really enjoy helping people, and learning about why people do certain things, hence, my interest in psychology and furthering my psychology studies at university in 2009!
Aswell as psychology, I also enjoy singing (recnetly passed my grade 8 music theatre WOOOO) dancing, playing the piano, reading, and ofcourse, socialising!

In my friendship group I'm the 'Auntie Sarah- the person tht people tend to go to when they need someone to share their problems with/chat etcetc... and so, I am hoping that the people in need of a friendly person to talk to, will recognise this in me and hopefully I can be of some use to them!!!

Life experiences

Relationships

As i said in the "about me" section I'm the person people go to advice...tis is usually relatsionship orinetated (either with family/friends and mainly boy/girlfriends)

Self image

I shan't beat around the bush...as a sufferer from bullimia, I can fully understand the consequences of a self body image and self esteem issues from my own personal experience.

A shoulder to cry on

I often get told that I am wuite good at cheering people up - even if it is just to rant and rave about something or to just blurt a whole load of emotion out to someone completely random who can provide an objective opinion then I would hope to be considered!

Why mentor on horsesmouth?

I think that this is a good idea for mentoring as it enables people to express how tey truly feel about certain things - minus the possible embarassment! it also provides a service that everyone can access and confide in and therefore, you can gain opinions/ideas/ advice etc... from a variety of people, not just the one councillor or one friend. After being te 'Auntie Sarah' amongst friends for a long time, I felt that maybe I should take things further and see where this site can lead me.....

I am very lucky to have found your website. Recently I wrote about a problem which I face very often.... There were 10 responses from 10 mentors. They have really explained to me and made me understand that I do not have any problem. Your services are wonderful and I am very much thankful to all of you.

I have been mentoring on HM for 18 months. I really enjoy it & hopefully I am helping other people. Recently I posted my my first 'request for a mentor'. I have been completely bowled over by the response. So many people taking their time & making the effort to offer constructive advice in a friendly polite manner. For me it completely validates the intent behind HM. It reminds me how many good, helpful people there are out there. Thanks for providing such a great service.
'I called out for mentor assistance a week or so ago.

I have been inundated with unbelievably helpful replies, and now have a toolkit to draw on to start turning around behaviours and mind-sets that have been detrimental in my life.

I just want to thank Horsesmouth and all the amazing people who reached out to me.  Each and every one of you has given me something to think about, and some have given me heaps of material with which to start working.  Now I need to do the work! Thank you so much!'
