Passionate , Affectionate , Optomistic
I'm young but experienced! I grew up with my grandparents after my mother died when I was only a couple of months old. I have come to call my grandmother 'Mum' and despite our many differences, we are finally in a harmonious place. I attended dance school from a very young age and went to Theatre School full-time from the age of ten. After leaving at eighteen, my career was short but fruitful. I left in pursuit of something more stable and am now working as a receptionist for a large internet company. Its a great job and I work with a great team. I have no idea what I want to do for a career, but I do know that I want my life to have meaning and purpose. I'd love to help people in anyway I can - which bought me to this website!
I have had depressive tendencies for years now. Although I do not take medication for it and would class myself as having mild-moderate episodes, it is something I struggle with daily, something that affects my relationships, work life and social life, and I am able to understand and advise, or even just share experiences.
I have struggled with my self-esteem for as long as I can remember. From 10-18, vital years for growth, I attend a theatre school which is an incredibly hard place to gain self-esteem as you are constantly criticised and judged, and are always in front of mirrors! I believe that self-esteem is a major issue in todays world and it is time we start seeing the good in each other and in ourselves.
As a way of dealing with my depression I have self-harmed by cutting my arms. It's difficult to deal with and takes its toll on my relationship with my boyfriend whom I live with. It seems people have a lack of understanding when it comes to self-harm and the different forms it can take. Unfortunately, in some places, it has become more of a fashion statement than a true symptom of mental/emotional difficulties. I'd like to offer advise to those who need it from someone who truly understands it first-hand.
What better person to speak with about difficult issues than someone who understands through personal experience? It's difficult to raise certain issues due to fear of judgement and possible consequences. I know how dreadful it feels to be at your lowest and feel as though there is nowhere to turn. That is my motivation. To be able to provide someone with support and a listening ear when they need it so that if nothing else, they do not feel so alone.
Why not send out a general call for help to everyone
