Self description

Female , 49

I am nearly 43. I live in South Yorkshire with my Civil partner. I am visually impaired and a carer, was a young carer and then managed a Young carer's project. I am trained in counselling and used to work in a Social work setting. I have suffered from OCD and recovered. I have worked with young LGBT people with mental health problems and counselled people losing their sight and their carers. I am a vegetarian and holistic healer, currently training to be a Reiki practitioner and am comiited to supporting people in a non judgemental and sensitive way.
I have supported my friend who is transgendered and through his surgery and transition and I firmly believe that where plan A fails there is always a plan Z.

Life experiences

Blindness/Visual impairment

I have always been blind and I am very positive about this and have also worked with people losing their sight and their carers.

Young Carers

I was a young carer for my mum who has mental health problems and after training I set up and managed a young carer's project providing emotional and practical support, information, advice and advocacy as well as therapeutic work.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder ( OCD)

After working in a very stressful environment I developed OCD. After seeking out support and being my own therapist I have fully recovered from this and would like to support others in doing the same.

Why mentor on horsesmouth?

Life is a struggle only if we have to live it alone. I have truly learned the value of support and supporting on a personal and professional level. Horsesmouth provides the ideal opportunity to give something back. Many people when feeling alone and isolated turn to the internet for help. I hope to be a port of call for this.

I am very lucky to have found your website. Recently I wrote about a problem which I face very often.... There were 10 responses from 10 mentors. They have really explained to me and made me understand that I do not have any problem. Your services are wonderful and I am very much thankful to all of you.

I have been mentoring on HM for 18 months. I really enjoy it & hopefully I am helping other people. Recently I posted my my first 'request for a mentor'. I have been completely bowled over by the response. So many people taking their time & making the effort to offer constructive advice in a friendly polite manner. For me it completely validates the intent behind HM. It reminds me how many good, helpful people there are out there. Thanks for providing such a great service.
'I called out for mentor assistance a week or so ago.

I have been inundated with unbelievably helpful replies, and now have a toolkit to draw on to start turning around behaviours and mind-sets that have been detrimental in my life.

I just want to thank Horsesmouth and all the amazing people who reached out to me.  Each and every one of you has given me something to think about, and some have given me heaps of material with which to start working.  Now I need to do the work! Thank you so much!'
