Self description

Female , 30

I was born in England to West Indian parents, and I have always enjoyed the Arts; dance, Theatre and music.

I have a degree in Drama and Theatre Arts from the University of Birmingham.

I am currently the Receptionist at Shine TV, and I have been there for 10 months. It took a while to get into the industry, but it was definitely worth the wait. I really enjoy my job, and the people I work with are great!

Life experiences

As silly as it sounds, when it comes to work I am super organised! (Unlike my personal life-my room in particular!)

Being on Reception has taught me how to keep on top of things and multi-task to the extreme. I am now an expert in answering the phone, signing for a package and opening the door at the same time!

Being organised shows commitment and enthusiasm for the work that you do, and it can be seen, respected and appreciated by your colleagues.

People work in different ways, but my favourite method of keeping organised is lists. I swear by lists! I make them with a tick box next to it, so I can tick it off once it has been completed. I also tend to colour code them if they are very important.

I am sometimes teased at work for how OCD I appear to be...but it's better to be safe than sorry!

Making a 3 Minute Film

A few weeks ago I completed my first 3 minute film!

As I have a degree in Drama and Theatre Arts, I am still learning a lot about the TV industry and making the film was a definite learning experience.

3 minutes isn't very long, especially when you have 25 minutes of footage to edit. So this was something that I panicked and worried about.

Eventually, the editor and myself managed to cut it down to 5 minutes and then came the gruelling task of making it 3!

This project was definitely a challenge, and I was often heard saying " I'm never making a film again!" I think it was worth every second of it though, I learnt a great deal about shooting and editing and got to meet some fantastic Industry people.

My 3 minute film is something that I am immensely proud of, and without persevering with it it wouldn't have been such a success.

Why mentor on horsesmouth?

The Media industry is a tough industry to crack, and I think anyone who wants to get involved in it should be able to go somewhere to get advice and tips. As I mentioned before it took me a while to get to where I am, but along the way I met some fantastic people who gave me great feedback and told me not to give up. It is these people who helped me, so now I would like to do the same. Even though, I have not been in TV that long, I have still learnt a vast amount and I am sure I would be able to offer advice to newcomers.

I am very lucky to have found your website. Recently I wrote about a problem which I face very often.... There were 10 responses from 10 mentors. They have really explained to me and made me understand that I do not have any problem. Your services are wonderful and I am very much thankful to all of you.

I have been mentoring on HM for 18 months. I really enjoy it & hopefully I am helping other people. Recently I posted my my first 'request for a mentor'. I have been completely bowled over by the response. So many people taking their time & making the effort to offer constructive advice in a friendly polite manner. For me it completely validates the intent behind HM. It reminds me how many good, helpful people there are out there. Thanks for providing such a great service.
'I called out for mentor assistance a week or so ago.

I have been inundated with unbelievably helpful replies, and now have a toolkit to draw on to start turning around behaviours and mind-sets that have been detrimental in my life.

I just want to thank Horsesmouth and all the amazing people who reached out to me.  Each and every one of you has given me something to think about, and some have given me heaps of material with which to start working.  Now I need to do the work! Thank you so much!'
