Profile

Male 62
I am a person with early onset Lewy Body Dementia, and I like to help others with this illness as and when possible.
I am also a member of other support groups, where we try to support those who have just been diagnosed with this illness, and later find that they have many questions to ask, and no one to turn to when they need it the most.
I am also a Dignity Champion, as I feel that we must give as much support as possible to everyone on the dementia journey, no matter who they are.

Life experiences

Life Experiences in Dementia

The understanding of what it is like to live with dementia, and cope with all the problems and pit falls we encounter on this journey.
I was involved with the National Dementia Strategy from the beginning, and I am still involved at a local level, and I firmly believe that this strategy must succeed for the benefit of all on this dementia journey no matter who they are.

Why Mentor in Horsesmouth

I know how difficult things can be and would like to share my limited experiences and knowledge of this illness in the hope that I can help others while I am able to do it.
I was also given a lot of support in the beginning and I would like to re pay this by helping others in the same position.
I also think that we need to raise awareness and re-educate people, so that people understand the illness better than they do today, and remove the myths that exist, such as I have heard people ask it dementia is contagious

Why mentor on horsesmouth?

I am motivated because I wish to help others who are desperate for advice about dementia and where to look for information, concerning the various types of illness, and where they can get support. I know that many people are diagnosed these days, but they are not given all the information required nor are they told where they can get it.

I am very lucky to have found your website. Recently I wrote about a problem which I face very often.... There were 10 responses from 10 mentors. They have really explained to me and made me understand that I do not have any problem. Your services are wonderful and I am very much thankful to all of you.

I have been mentoring on HM for 18 months. I really enjoy it & hopefully I am helping other people. Recently I posted my my first 'request for a mentor'. I have been completely bowled over by the response. So many people taking their time & making the effort to offer constructive advice in a friendly polite manner. For me it completely validates the intent behind HM. It reminds me how many good, helpful people there are out there. Thanks for providing such a great service.

well what a geat website! in all honestly, i basically typed in "agony aunts online" while on a down day just expecting some upbeat optimism on the computer, and came across this site. it is so much better than just reading a passage on a website, to actually talk to REAL people for honest advice and listening about particular subjects rather than a general overview.

I just want to say thanks to everyone who replied to one of my recent shout outs about forgiving - every message was useful and some very helpful indeed! It really feels good to know other people understand how i've been feeling, and to know there are people not far from me to help! Thanks so much, and everyone please don't hesitate to get in touch if I can help anyone with any problem you may be having xxx
