Apprentice of the Year 2009 winner! , Enthusiastic , Hard Working
I'm 19 Years Old; i live by myself enjoy going out with friends, and staying in to watch the X Factor! I have been working at a College for 2 and half years. I am currently doing my apprenticeship at the college in the Admissions & Funds Team. I’m studying for my NVQ3 in Business Administration and have just won Apprentice of the Year 2009. In the last two years i have matured, grown in confidence, become more independent and i have got all this from doing my apprenticeship.
When i was at school i wasn't the best student, i enjoyed messing around with my friends instead of listening in class. Towards the end of secondary school life my teachers didn't give me much confidence in achieving my GCSEs. One of the things my teachers said to me was " i wasn't going to achieve in anything". Once i had sat my exams and achieved 10 GCSEs A-C i knew i had proved them wrong and was determined to make something of myself
In October 2008 i was nominated to receive a EMAGINE award (Ethnic Minorities Achieving Goals in Education). I was nominated for this as i had completed my NVQ2 3 Months early at the college and passed my National Certificates in Organisation and People Skills top of my class achieving 80% in my exam..
Whilst doing my apprenticeship i was given loads of opportunities to show my team what i could do to help the company. i attended Big Apprenticeship breakfast to show employers why taking on an apprentice is a good thing. Then in July 2009 i won the National Apprentice of the year title.
I decided to choose to be a Mentor with Horsemouth because i wanted to show others that you can achieve something if you work hard at it. I would never have thought somebody like me would have achieved the things i have and wanting to go on to do a Foundation Degree in Business Managment. i think anybody who has an ambition can achieve what they want they need to be willing to work hard and go that extra mile to get where they want. I want to give people the confidence to do this and pass what i have learnt on to them.
Why not send out a general call for help to everyone
