Self description

Female , 27

I am 26 years old and left school not really knowing what i wanted to do! I just knew there was no way i was going to college as i was fed up of homework!! I managed to get a job as an administrator where i would work towards an apprenticeship in business administration. I thought this was ace as i got to work, get paid and still get training!
I finished my apprenticeship and moved up to level 3 i ended up getting pregnant but luckily my employer supported me and when i returned to work i got promoted as a manager and continued doing training in level 4, team leader and management training.
I am now the centre operations manager at a training centre i really enjoy it and have a good team of administrators that i work with.

I have my own house and my daughter is now 7. I also have another property which i rent out and hopefully this will gain enough equity to become my pension fund!

I also in my spare time make clothes and accessories and have been on evening courses at college.

Life experiences

Teenage pregnancy

I put this as its very common nowadays but i am proof that you can still continue with a career your experiences and still get on with a child on the way!

I was also single throughtout this but luckily my parents lived close by so was much help to me.

I had to put in the effort though but it paid off with time.

Training with NVQs

I got where i am through working and completing NVQs in my occupational area, i am so glad i never went to college as this is what i was being pushed into but i now earn 33k a year and i dont have an A Level just a few NVQ's!

Why mentor on horsesmouth?

I wanted to join horsesmouth an become a mentor because i feel there isnt enough help or guidance out there for people who are unsure of what to do and where they can go and if its the best route for them. I totally shout of the rooftops that NVQs can get you somewhere you dont need a degree its something i am actually now thinking about doing but you dont need it to get a good job. Now im older i think im ready to hit the books again s may give it a try. I like to set my self goals in life and think people should come to me with advice as im very positive about everything and always try to look at the good things!

I am very lucky to have found your website. Recently I wrote about a problem which I face very often.... There were 10 responses from 10 mentors. They have really explained to me and made me understand that I do not have any problem. Your services are wonderful and I am very much thankful to all of you.

I have been mentoring on HM for 18 months. I really enjoy it & hopefully I am helping other people. Recently I posted my my first 'request for a mentor'. I have been completely bowled over by the response. So many people taking their time & making the effort to offer constructive advice in a friendly polite manner. For me it completely validates the intent behind HM. It reminds me how many good, helpful people there are out there. Thanks for providing such a great service.

well what a geat website! in all honestly, i basically typed in "agony aunts online" while on a down day just expecting some upbeat optimism on the computer, and came across this site. it is so much better than just reading a passage on a website, to actually talk to REAL people for honest advice and listening about particular subjects rather than a general overview.

I just want to say thanks to everyone who replied to one of my recent shout outs about forgiving - every message was useful and some very helpful indeed! It really feels good to know other people understand how i've been feeling, and to know there are people not far from me to help! Thanks so much, and everyone please don't hesitate to get in touch if I can help anyone with any problem you may be having xxx
