Self description

Female , 27

Currently a university student, going in to my second year studying psychology.

I am the eldest of seven children, i live with my father, step mum and siblings in London, which I think is a great city brimming with opportunities for success.

I love talking, singing and socialising.

At the age of six my family migrated to the UK, when my father was offered a job at a Hospital in London.

I hope to complete my degree and then move on to a post graduate in organisational psychology :)

Life experiences

Living with/ Caring for a family member with Cancer

I lived with my mother and my siblings through five years of cancer, which eventually took her away.

I cared for my mother and took care of my siblings, times were very hard, but with faith I made it through.

Failing AS levels

Sad to think I'm an expert on this since iv only done it once, but I know what it feels like and all of the harsh things you tell yourself after.

No matter what the circumstances, I believe everything happens for a reason - and so I failed - :p

Even if you feel like you have ruined your only chances of success, you haven't. And the bottom line is that there is a way forward out of and to everything, so no matter what your dreams are, with perseverance comes reward and you cant lose if you try hard.

I guess some lessons in life - you just got to learn the hard way.

Step family

When i lived with my mother, i had a step father and step siblings, now that i live with my father i have more sisters, as we have the same father i dont see them any different to my full brothers and sister :)

I know about the complications of this sort of family, only too well. I know that there are anxieties and anger and that there are feelings which might never be resolved but we also need to move on and sticking to what you believe in.

Times can be difficult coping with step parents but you just have to make do, its not a decision for third parties = parents make their own choices and i guess we (as the children) have to respect that.

Why mentor on horsesmouth?

I am a fun loving person, I like to talk and make jokes. Bringing smiles to peoples faces is something you cannot put a price on. In my free time (which is all full anyway) I partake in Jujitsu, swimming and squash with my dad and trainers, obviously not all at the same time. I also enjoy reading and being on the net. I volunteer weekly at a Saturday school where I help with the 5 year olds and with admin duties. As I have joined many volunteer groups which work in London I have come across horses mouth and thought: 'I spend a lot of time on the net, why not give back that way' so here I am.

I am very lucky to have found your website. Recently I wrote about a problem which I face very often.... There were 10 responses from 10 mentors. They have really explained to me and made me understand that I do not have any problem. Your services are wonderful and I am very much thankful to all of you.

I have been mentoring on HM for 18 months. I really enjoy it & hopefully I am helping other people. Recently I posted my my first 'request for a mentor'. I have been completely bowled over by the response. So many people taking their time & making the effort to offer constructive advice in a friendly polite manner. For me it completely validates the intent behind HM. It reminds me how many good, helpful people there are out there. Thanks for providing such a great service.
'I called out for mentor assistance a week or so ago.

I have been inundated with unbelievably helpful replies, and now have a toolkit to draw on to start turning around behaviours and mind-sets that have been detrimental in my life.

I just want to thank Horsesmouth and all the amazing people who reached out to me.  Each and every one of you has given me something to think about, and some have given me heaps of material with which to start working.  Now I need to do the work! Thank you so much!'
