When plans go wrong.

This time last year my plans were very different to how everything has turned out. I was determined to go to university in Newcastle, needing high grades to get there and I expected to get exactly those grades. However results day came and looking at my results exactly what I feared but never really expected had happened. I was one grade from what I needed. After shedding quite a few tears and embarrassing myself in front of teachers I had barely spoken to, I discovered that none of the universities I had applied to wanted me. However I decided not to give up, I could have waited another year and spent my time in limbo to retake the exams and see if it would be in the same. Instead I decided on a different university, one I had never considered in the selection process. I spent the year working hard and managed in a way I don't think would have quite fit in at Newcastle. Now I'm living with two friends from school and my boyfriend, which is something that I could not have done had I gone to where I had planned.
This experience taught me that I am strong and that there are some things that you cannot change, even if at the time they seem to be the end of the world. Things generally do work out, you just have to try to remain positive and push through them.

I am very lucky to have found your website. Recently I wrote about a problem which I face very often.... There were 10 responses from 10 mentors. They have really explained to me and made me understand that I do not have any problem. Your services are wonderful and I am very much thankful to all of you.

I have been mentoring on HM for 18 months. I really enjoy it & hopefully I am helping other people. Recently I posted my my first 'request for a mentor'. I have been completely bowled over by the response. So many people taking their time & making the effort to offer constructive advice in a friendly polite manner. For me it completely validates the intent behind HM. It reminds me how many good, helpful people there are out there. Thanks for providing such a great service.

well what a geat website! in all honestly, i basically typed in "agony aunts online" while on a down day just expecting some upbeat optimism on the computer, and came across this site. it is so much better than just reading a passage on a website, to actually talk to REAL people for honest advice and listening about particular subjects rather than a general overview.

I just want to say thanks to everyone who replied to one of my recent shout outs about forgiving - every message was useful and some very helpful indeed! It really feels good to know other people understand how i've been feeling, and to know there are people not far from me to help! Thanks so much, and everyone please don't hesitate to get in touch if I can help anyone with any problem you may be having xxx
